pen names for privacy?

pen names - do you use one and, if so, why?

i've heard it's smart to write under a different name for issues of privacy in this age of information. how crucial do you think this concern really is?

got any stories with one of the following morals: "...therefore, you should use a pen name," "therefore, you should not use a pen name" ??

thanks.

I often use a pen name, for various reasons. One, if my grandparents read some of the stuff I've had published they'd probably have a heart attack. Two, I really don't like most of my friends to know I write. It's a personal thing, and something I usually only want to share with close friends. Three, I really don't care for recognition. I just want to know it is being read.

I've been known to use pen names - says Daiva Nati.

      *ahem!*

Which, of course, is not my real name. :)

I've used them at different times, for different purposes. Privacy, family reasons, just because I'm sometimes shy about my subject matter and might not want the whole world to know what I wrote, though I do want the right people to read it.

I think it's fun. It's fun to be the different personalities that we embody - and using a different name is one way to experience that.

      I like 'em!
